🎯 Choosing Between 0.125 mm and 0.15 mm TX Films
TX Films are used to tighten the fit between a switch’s top and bottom housing, improving sound and stability. They’re a subtle but powerful tuning tool—great for reducing stem wobble, sharpening acoustics, and bringing consistency across a full board.
But which thickness should you choose? Here's how to decide.
🔍 0.125 mm TX Films
These are the most universal option. They're designed for switches with already tight or average top/bottom housing tolerances. A 0.125 mm film adds a light compression—just enough to firm up the switch without risking stress or deformation - though its rare to damage a switch unless you really force application. .
Use 0.125 mm films if:
- You’re working with tighter switches like modern HMX, MX2A Cherry, Keygeek, BSUN and Akko
- You want subtle tuning: a little less wobble, slightly sharper sound, no dramatic changes
- You’re unsure what fits — this is the safest starting point
🔍 0.15 mm TX Films
These offer a tighter fit and are ideal for looser switch housings. The extra thickness adds more compression, which improves acoustic density and firmness—but can stress housings if used where tolerances are already tight.
Use 0.15 mm films if:
- You’re using looser switches like older JWK (e.g. banana splits), older Tecsee and KTT variants (e.g. Tecsee Ruby or KTT Kang White), or switches people say "you need to film"
- You want to enhance acoustics more aggressively (thicker films = deeper, less hollow sound also known as thock)
- You're aiming to remove both housing and stem wobble from looser factory tolerances
Final Tips
- Don’t use 0.15 mm films with switches that already feel tight to close—forcing them can damage or warp housings.
- If in doubt, start with 0.125 mm — it covers ~80% of switch types safely and gives great results without over-tuning.
- Films are reusable if removed gently and stored flat.
